Kuala Lumpur Traveler Stories
Kuala Lumpur looks different depending on who is walking through it. A first-time visitor remembers the skyline and the first bowl of laksa. A family remembers the rainy afternoon that turned into the best part of the trip. A solo traveler remembers the street they were not supposed to find. Our guides cover the practical side of the city. Traveler Stories is where visitors tell the rest.
Visit Kuala Lumpur publishes selected first-person stories from travelers who want to share what they discovered, enjoyed, learned, or remembered about the city. A story might describe a place you loved, food you discovered, a neighborhood you explored, a trip with family, a solo adventure, a cultural encounter, or an unexpected moment that stayed with you. Every submission is read and considered before anything is published, and not every submission will appear on the site.

What You Can Share
The best traveler stories are specific and personal. They do not need to be polished travel writing, and they do not need to cover the whole city. A single afternoon can be enough.
Write about your own experience of the city. First-person accounts of what you saw, tasted, and felt are more useful to future visitors than general advice, which our guides already cover.
Honest stories are welcome, including the parts that did not go to plan. A missed train, a menu you could not read, or a downpour that changed your day can say more about a place than a perfect itinerary. Concrete details help most: the name of the place, the time of day, how you got there, and what you would do differently.
Places and neighborhoods
A corner of the city you kept returning to, an attraction that surprised you, or a quiet street you found by accident. It can be a landmark everyone visits or a place most visitors miss.
Food and everyday moments
A meal you still think about, a market you wandered through, or a small exchange that taught you something about how the city lives day to day.
Ways of traveling
A family trip with children or grandparents, a solo journey, a stopover that turned into more, or a personal itinerary that worked well and might help another visitor.
Impressions and discoveries
What you expected, what you found instead, and what you would tell a friend before they go. First impressions and cultural encounters are often the most honest part of a story.
How to Submit
Email your story to story@visitkualalumpur.my and include the following. There is no required length, so write as much as the story needs.
- A story title. A working title is fine. We may suggest a different headline if it helps the story.
- Your name or preferred display name. See below for how your name can appear.
- Your story. Written in your own words, either in the body of the email or as an attached document.
- Places visited or mentioned. This helps us check details and connect your story to related guides.
- Photos (optional). Attached to the email, as described below.
- A short author bio (optional). One or two sentences about you, if you would like them included.
Photos
Photos are optional. If you would like to include some, attach photographs you took yourself or have permission to share. Visit Kuala Lumpur decides whether any submitted photos are published alongside a story.
How Your Name Appears
You choose how you are credited: your full name, your first name, your initials, or a preferred display name. Just tell us in your email. Your email address is not displayed publicly.
Before You Send
A few plain ground rules, so you know what to expect.
- Every submission is reviewed before publication. Sending a story does not guarantee that it will be published.
- We may edit for clarity, grammar, length, formatting, and house style, and we may adjust the headline or add links to related guides. Edits aim to preserve your meaning.
- Please send only original work that you have the right to share. Photos must be your own or used with permission.
- We may decline submissions that are promotional, commercial, duplicative, off-topic, inaccurate, unsafe, inappropriate, or primarily intended to obtain links.
- Published stories reflect the personal experiences and opinions of their authors. Contributors are not staff or representatives of Visit Kuala Lumpur.
Traveler Stories is for genuine travel experiences, so it is not open to commercial promotions, advertorial submissions, SEO submissions, or link-placement requests.
